GURUGRAM: The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has started the process of mapping underground utilities in the Delhi-Gurgaon portion of the Regional Rapid Transit System corridor that will run between Delhi and Alwar.
NCRTC officials said the process entails identifying the position of public utility mains located under the ground and labelling them. The mains may include lines for telecommunication, electricity distribution, natural gas, water mains, and waste water pipes.
The process is executed through a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology that helps detect the utilities. “The process started this week and will carry on for the next 40 days from Gurgaon itself. We have already initiated pre-construction activities, like Geotechnical Investigation and pile load test,” an NCRTC official said.
The NCRTC Board, in its meeting held in December 2018, had approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB corridor. Following that the tendering process started in December and tenders were floated for a pile loading test.
While geotechnical investigations are conducted to obtain information on the physical properties of soil and foundations for proposed structures, pile loading tests help assess the designing of civil structures and strength of the concrete that would be used in the project. Tenders have been floated for about a 75 km stretch in the Haryana part of the corridor.
The corridor is part of the Delhi-Gurgaon-Alwar RRTS corridor, which will be constructed in three stages. In the first phase, the Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB Urban Complex of 106 km will be made. In the second phase, it would be extended to Sotanala. In the last phase, the rapid rail network will be extended to Alwar. “The high-speed trains in the Regional Rapid Transit System will cover 106km, from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to SNB, in approximately 70 minutes,” said an official. The Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB corridor will be elevated for about 71 km (including 11 stations) and the remaining 35 km (with five stations) will be underground, mostly in Delhi and Gurgaon, officials said.
The corridor will converge with other RRTS corridors at Sarai Kale Khan and will be interoperable, facilitating commuter movement. The RRTS will be integrated with train and metro stations, ISBTs and the airport.
